Description

In this lesson students practice their speaking through the context of life journeys and changes. They will also practice listening, use of present perfect continuous and since and for. The lesson will start with a quick repetition of the teacher's and students' names. To activate schemata I will show a picture and ask questions which the students discuss in pairs. Next, the students will listen to the CD and answer the questions in ex 1 and check their answers in pairs. Then, the students will read the questions in ex 2 and talk together to see if they can remember any of the answers. After listening to the CD, students will check their answers with their partners. Finally, the students will practice their speaking and the teacher will correct some errors using the whiteboard

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ask the students how they are doing. And how they are doing in terms of the lessons. Tell my name again and write it on the whiteboard Repeat the students names for me.

Pre-Reading/Listening (5-7 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Show Ss the picture of the man and baby. Ask Ss questions in ex 1 - get them to work in pairs to discuss what they think. Take some general FB but don't confirm any answers.

Listening for gist (12-15 minutes) • To provide students with a less detailed listening task, for gist

Tell Ss to listen to the CD and answer the questions in ex 1 and see if their ideas were correct. Ss check their answers in pairs. Take FB and check their answers.

Listening for detail (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference listening tasks

Ss read the questions in ex 2 and talk together to see if they can remember their answers. Play the CD and Ss listen and check their answers. Get Ss to check with their partners. Take FB and ask if there was anything that surprised or was interesting for them.

Preparation for and freer speaking (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to speak and practice what they've learned

Follow the instructions for "The Road of My Life" on page 180 of the T's book.

Delayed Error Correction (5-7 minutes) • To provide Ss with some examples from the lesson

From the FB taken during the speaking time, I write down some errors on the w/b. The Ss must correct them
