Elementary A1/2 level
Description
Materials
Main Aims
-
To provide review and practice of preposition of place in the context of housing
Subsidiary Aims
-
To provide accuracy speaking practice in a guiding and giving directions in the context of addresses and locations
Procedure (36-50 minutes)
I will show the students some pictures of my dogs and brothers. Then I will ask them to say where they are by using the prepositions. After this 1st short lead-in, I will ask some students to stand up and move around the person I pronounce. Such as; - Kubra go behind Serhat - Ece go in between Serhat and Kubra
After the fun lead-in, I will show them a picture where there are lots of objects. (illustrating the prepositions of place) I will ask them to speak in pairs and do the rest of the exercise, which will be shown afterwards. While doing the second exercise, I will be testing their real knowledge of prepositions of place. After they are finished, I will give them the answer key to check their answers.
After seeing their weak points in the target language I will ask them to underline the prepositions of place and the nouns after them from the previous lesson. Then I will focus on some rules of prepositions of place but I will let the students tell me the correct answers. I will write on the white board IN, ON, AT and under them I will ask the students to write the appropriate places.
I will draw a street on the board and some buildings around them and make students work in pairs and discuss where is where. I will be monitoring each pair and give open class feedback after the exercise
Before finishing off the lesson, they will do a pair work activity. I will give one photocopy for each pair (A and B) A and B are the same text but with different gaps to fill. The text is about someone called Gerry Thompson. Over the projector, I will show them a "Gerry Thompson". For the exercise; the students will have to ask each other the necessary questions to fill in the gaps correctly. I will elicit the correct question using my colleague Christopher.
