B2 level
Description
Materials
Main Aims
-
To provide practice of language used for quantifiers through a series of exercises
Subsidiary Aims
-
To provide accuracy speaking practice using quantifiers
Procedure (34-45 minutes)
Students will do exercise 2 from the handout which highlights some exceptions/homonyms which they must identify as countable/uncountable. Peer check and feedback will follow. Ss will be instructed not to begin subsequent exercises.
In groups of 3-4, students will be given 20 noun cutouts to stick to the wall under one of two headers, countable and uncountable. They will first find a good space and be instructed to place them high on the wall and visible to everyone before receiving their papers and tack. When finished they will scan the other results and correct each other before I resolve any questions in group feedback. In pairs, students will then choose one noun from each column and compose two sentences as I monitor. A few will be shared to ensure accuracy.
Students will carefully examine the example and discuss in pairs. I will take them through the logic of determining the correct sentences with CCQs. "IS 5 EUROS MUCH/VERY LITTLE/HARDLY ANY MONEY?" "CAN WE SAY SHE EARNS MUCH/VERY LITTLE/HARDLY ANY MONEY?" "WHAT CAN WE SAY?" Students will do the exercise 4 questions at a time(10-12 sentences), then peer check, after which I will take questions and/or hot check. Repeat until finished. After writing concludes I will drill the students on natural pronunciation/tone on all of the sentences which will double as an answer check.
In pairs, students will analyze and correct the quantifiers in 12 opinion statements. Each student will choose 6 statements that they most agree with by circling the number, etc. Student will be placed in new groups of 3 for a secondary check. Groups will then discuss the statements the chose and see which opinions they shared. These will be shared with the class in whole class feedback.
