Materials
Main Aims
-
To provide practice of listening for gist, specific information and detail in the context of number plates.
Subsidiary Aims
-
To review and practice numbers from 0 to 10.
Procedure (45-55 minutes)
Re-introduce yourself and check sts names. Elicit the numbers 0-10 and go over the pronunciation. (Extra lead in: Students can spell their names and say how many letters their names have)
Do ex.1 in pairs. Ask some students to write the answers on the board. Write a bunch of numbers on small pieces of paper and cut them up. Give a set to each pair. One person takes a paper, says the number, and the other student says the numbers that come before and after. Set the context of the listening (use pictures of the numbe plates- elicit from the students what they are, and when you might need to use them).Do ex.1 in pairs.
Tell them they are going to listen to 2 conversations. Write on board ' Where are they? / How many people are there? ' Ask students to listen and answer these questions. Play it only once. Have them check in partners before you do feedback with the whole class.
Do ex.2. Students match the plates to the conversation. Set the task before Ss listen, and allow time for peer -checking before you do feedback with the whole class.
Do ex.3. Try putting them in different pairs of small groups. They will ask 'Do you have a car? ' and ' What is the number plate? ' They will use the target structure; the number plate is... or I don't have a car. They will do free speaking activity and find out how many people in the class have a car.
