Description

In this lesson students learn about the passive through guided discovery based on a reading about the Academy Awards in the context of cinema. Students will develop receptive speaking skills by first reading for gist through checking text against prediction. Then practice passive structures through controlled and free practice.

Main Aims

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

- Set context by showing video of the Academy Awards. - let Ss watch video - ssk Ss to discuss what happened in the video - ask ICQ: "You will talk about...?" - monitor Ss - give quick Feedback - try to elicit `reward` `ceremony` `nominated`

Exposure (7-9 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

- distribute prediction task - ICQ: What will you do? Guess the answer - let Ss work in groups - monitor Ss - distribute text - let students check answers - give Feedback

Highlighting (4-6 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language
