Description

In this lesson students will practice of language for asking personal questions. After the lead-in activity they will listen an audio about the target language do some controlled practice from "New Headway Beginner" Ss book. After this practice they'll be focusing on city and country names. As a freer practice learners will choose a person from the photo in the book and present these people to each other in small groups.

Main Aims

  • To provide Ss with review, clarification and practice of language for asking personal questions: What's ______ name? Where's ________ from? Where's _________? It's in ____________? in the context of getting to know people

Subsidiary Aims

  • To practise vocabulary of cities within countries

Procedure

Lead-in (5-5 minutes) • To get students engaged to the topic

Teacher reflects a Turkey map on the board and writes her/his name in the city of his/her own town. Ask students where they are from. Students come to the board in pairs and write their names in the city where they are from. Teacher asks "Where is ........... from?" and students answer.

Exposure&Clarification (6-8 minutes) • To listen for a general understanding and set the context

Students get the exercise page and check before listening. Teacher gives the instructions and highlight the example. Students listen 2.4, page 13, and do the "Exercise-1"(activity 1) to set context. Students check in pairs and do whole-class feedback (WCFB)

Clarification-pronunciation (4-5 minutes) • To elicit the target language and clarify the pronunciation of the target language

Students listen the track 2.5. The sentences also is shown from the presentation. Sts listen and repeat the questions. Teacher drills.

Controlled Practice (5-6 minutes) • To enable students using the target language

Show the given conversation to sts. Teacher does a demonstration with one of the students. Drill conversation with whole class. Students work in pairs , ask and answer questions about the people in exercise 1. Teacher monitors and provide feedback. Error correction as whole class.

Focus on Place Names (6-7 minutes) • To enable students ask and answer questions about the countries cities located in

Use the map in the slight again. Show Istanbul and highlight it's a city in Turkey. Emphasize the words "city and country". Give sts the Exercise-2 to match the cities and the countries they're located by filling the gaps. Sts do pair check. Whole class check and drill the target sentences.

Practise (6-8 minutes) • to use the target language in a dialouge

(Page 14, part 2) Sts get a copy of "Exercise-3" as A and B. Students ask and answer questions about the people in the pictures and fill the gaps. Teacher monitor and provide feedback and error correction as whole class.

Freer Practice (5-8 minutes) • To enable students using the target language

Have learners each choose a person from the photo in Exercise-3 and present to each other in small groups. Monitor and provide feedback and error correction as whole class.
