To provide fluency speaking practice in a Cued dialogues and uncontrolled practice in the context of Talking on the phone
Procedure (51-62 minutes)
Teacher presents picture of the the four characters from the listening exercise video. Allow SS to discuss in pairs how they might be related. Elicit what they may be talking about. If not brought up, bring up the idea of phone problems. Elicit some ways to say this. Pre-teach "you're breaking up."
Tell students they will watch a video about the four characters from the photo. Tell them that the main character is making a plan with each character, and to see if they can figure out what he wants to do with each character. Discuss in pairs after. Nominate feedback.
Pass out gap full and word order exercises. Ask students to complete on their own. Allow students to fill in on WB for feedback. Clarify any confusing vocab.
Present cued dialogue on projector. Ask for a volunteer and demonstrate activity. Before handing out cued dialogue, ask students if they can remember any ways people talked about phone problems. Write them on the board for students to reference. Hand out cued dialogue and ask students to due in pairs
Ask students to write down on a piece of paper something that they plan to do on the phone. Collect all the papers in a box. Shuffle, go around again and have each pair grab a piece of paper and make plans on the phone about that topic.
Hand out specific information questions and ask students to answer as they watch video for second time. Check with pairs then nominate feedback.
