Procedure (33-42 minutes)
I will bring 2 sets of realia which I will set on 2 tables. Students will be divided into 2 groups. Each group has one table of objects to look at and name the objects. After a minute or two, I'll give them tags with names of the objects and they have to stick them to the objects. We'll spend some time on clarification of any unknown words and then we'll listen to the recording for pronunciation.
I will give them HO with photos of a shop assistant and a customer. Students will listen to get the general idea.
Students will listen to the track for the second time. They have to fill in the blanks with prices of the objects mentioned in the listening. They will check in pairs, then we'll check together.
I will ask the students to look at the photos and tell me the words in bold (this, that, these, those). I will ask CCQs about each item to make students understand what the difference is. Then I'll fill in a small chart on the WB with explanation of the pronouns being used with here/there and is/are.
I will give out a gap fill HO with new grammar. Students will fill in the blanks, check in pairs and we'll do an answer key on the board.
I will place the vocabulary items + some pens or papers around the class. Students will first sit, then they can stand up if they want and they're going to ask each other obout the objects around the class: What is this/that? What are these/those?
I will give our a HO with a crossword puzzle with the new vocabulary. Students can work and check in pairs.
I will give students 2 questions: What other things can you buy in a shop? What do they like to buy? What do you buy every day? They will do it as a whole class. Each one of them will take a piece of paper and has to write down 1 answer to whichever question from the people they've talked to. We'll check some answers together.
Students will write a chort essay on 'Which shop do you like and why?' and 'Do you shop a lot?' If the lesson ends, they can give it to me and I'll correct it at home or if not, we can talk about a few ideas students have written about.
