To provide accuracy and fluency speaking practice in a Wh-wuestions in the context of Favourites.
Procedure (39-50 minutes)
Present a picture with the word dream and ask students: Do you have sweet dreams for future. For example, I have a dream to live next to my father and mother. Then, in 3 minutes ask them in pairs to talk to their partners about things they would like to have in future or dream of. As a feedback, ask some students to share their peers answers.
Ex1: Check the difference between this and that with demonstration. Introduce questions: What's this? What's that? Focus the attention of students on the examples in numbers 1 and 2. Give students 3 minutes to to complete the rest of the conversation in pairs.Go round and monitor the class. Students check their answers in pairs. Then, play the recording as a final check. Ex2: Review the name of some objects in the classroom by asking What's this/that in English? Focus students attention on the examples in the speech bubbles.Drill examples in open pairs and encourage students to use the possessive 's where appropriate. E.g It's Nurgun's coat. Ask students in 3 minutes to mingle in pairs to ask and answer about other class room objects. Monitor and check the correct use the TL.
Now Write the form on the board: [+]This/that + is [-] This/that + is not/ isn't [?]Question word + is + this/that? Then use backchaining to drill chorally and individually : -This is my favourite family photo. -Who's that? -That is the boss. -That's the boss.
Focus students attention on the example and make sure they understand what the answer it refers to (ice-cream). Ask students to complete the other sentences in pairs in 3 minutes. Monitor the class then ask students to check in pairs in a half minute. Students check answers listening to the audio. Now as a feedback ask students what the pronoun refers back to each time. Ex:2. Check students comprehension of the items in the box. Focus students attention on the speech bubbles.Give students 3 minutes to do the task in pairs. Monitor and check for the correct use of object pronouns.
Now writhe the form on object pronouns on the board: Subject + verb + object pronoun Then drill chorally and individually: Do you like football? Yes, I love it. No, I hate it.
In pairs, ask students to read the questions and ask and answer them in 6 minutes. Monitor the class while students speak to each other and correct the mistakes. In open pairs, ask to students to tell about their peers.
Focus students attention on the first pairs of sentences as an example. In 4 minutes student answer the questions individually. Then ask students to mingle and check their answers in pairs. Monitor students while mingling. Then, Check the answer with the class by listening.
