Description

In this lesson, ss will be engaged in reading focused receptive skill development by pre-reading, while-reading and post reading exercises related to a text named Babur Ali. Finally there is some controlled practice through sentence completing and free practice through a role play activity.

Main Aims

  • To provide detailed and scan reading practice using a text about Babur Ali in the context of his daily life

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of role play

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (1-2 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

- Present pictures to elicit jobs.

Pre-Reading/Listening (4-5 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

-SS look at questions about Babur Ali and underline those they think are true -SS compare answers in pairs

Monitoring and FB (1-2 minutes) • To make sure that ss generated interest for the context

-T monitors and provides FB

While-Reading/Listening #1 (5-7 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading task

-SS look at the questions in 2 and read paragraph 1 for the answers -They compare answers in pairs

-T monitors and provides FB

While-Reading/Listening #2 (7-8 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading task

-T draws time table for Babur Ali's day and ss copy -In groups ss read the text and complete with times for what he does (task 3) -T does example with WC and they ask and answser questions

Post-Reading 1 (5-7 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

-T divides ss in two groups -The first group looks at the statements for exercise 4 posted on WB. They correct one statement and the other group comments -Then they change roles

Post Reading 2 (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

-T models an example question for task 5 (speaking) -T divides the class in two groups: Journalists and Babur's students -SS prepare questions based on prompts in exercise 5 -SS listen and check their questions -Cross pairing for journalists and his students -They do interviews in pairs
