Procedure (33-47 minutes)
Display the photos of the Windsor Castle and Eton College on WB. Ask "Do you know where these places are?" Elicit ideas but don't confirm their answers.
Get SS do the guided discovery vocabulary exercises. Distribute exercise 1 a. Say "Could you guess the meaning of these phrasal verbs by looking at the sentences"? Monitor. Provide feedback by distributing answer key. Tell "You can check the answers later to find out whether you guessed correctly." Help if they need any further guidance on meaning and pronounciation.
Divide class into two groups, A and B. Distribute questions and a different text to each group Get SS to read the text. Say "Please read the text in 5 minutes.". Check their understanding by saying "Does each group read their own text?", "Do we have 3 minutes to read it?" After they finish reading, tell them to stand up and find a partner from the other group. Draw attention to the questions and say "Ask your partner the questions and find out information about each other's texts by using the phrasal verbs we've learned today. You have 5 minutes". Monitor to make sure they're on right track, especially paying attention to whether they're using new phrasal verbs or not. Provide FB by giving them the answer key to check their answers.
Further exploit the text by asking different members of each group questions. Ask "What have you learned about Windsor Castle/ Eton College?" Tell each group they have 3 minutes to decide which place they would prefer to visit. When they finish, ask them about their choice and their reasoning. Say "Which of these two places would you rather visit? Why?"
