Procedure (40-70 minutes)
Talk about weekend, things that happened. Bring up stories. Elicit "the news". Talk about what kinds of news sources there are.
Write news topics on WB to Pre-Introduce vocab, clarify if needed. Explain headlines handout and ask SS to number in groups. Pass out handout. Listen to first listening. Feedback from individual students.
Split into 5 groups for news stories. Introduce excercise of matching vocab words with each story you think it will have. Handout newswords. Give 2 minutes for group excercise. Feedback from each group, write their answers on WB. Clarify words if necessary.
Elicit question words. Write them on the board. Explain how news stories always answer these questions. Feedback from individual students.
Tell students that the questions they have just filled out are what we will listen for. Listen to exercise twice. Elicit questions from whole class.
Have students come up with 5 questions about their news topic in their groups. (3 minutes). Pass to the right group and then have the group answer the questions they just received. (5 minutes). Later one student from each group is the newscaster. CUT EXCERCISE IF NEEDED
Listen to the art museum story at dictation pace. Call on student volunteers to write what they hear on the board. Repeat challenging words.
