To provide gist and scan reading practice using a text about having fever in the context of health
Procedure (29-39 minutes)
hold up 3 different medicines (what I have in the text) make sure learners know that we not only use the word medicine for general medication, but also specifically for liquid medication. highlight that tablets and capsules can come in bottles and packets. show them the picture of someone who is ill and ask them: what's the matter with him? is he ok? what does he need?
hand up cut ups: pictures and the names of the illnesses . ask them to do the matching task together in pairs. monitor and help weak learners. when the learners have finished, check the answers as whole class.
hand out the text and students read the text individually. task 1 find out the speakers , the place and the problem. ask them to check their answers in pairs correct as whole class taking an answer from each pair . write the answers on the board.
task 1 ask them to describe the boy and pick up symptoms of the illness. monitor and try to guide weak learners by eliciting . task 2 in pairs learners will pick up the treatment prescribed by the doctor. task 3 what terrified the boy at the end of the text? get the possible answers and hightlight the diffrence between celcuis and Fahrenheit thermometers .
introduce the role play: ask the learners to get the enveloppe sticked at the bottom of each desk, stand up , open it and find somone who has the same color of paper. student A is the doctor, he has the picture of the illness, student B will describe the symptoms provided in the cards. student A Ask questions using the target language expressions. Student B will describe the symptoms student tell the patient what you think the illness is and prescribe the convenient treatment.
