To provide detailed reading practice using a text about Phuket or Bangkok in the context of travel

To provide clarification of adjectives used for describing places
Procedure (33-46 minutes)
- Show picture 1 to elicit ' busy', show picture 2 to elicit ' quite' -post them on the whiteboard and say they are opposites -show HO1 and ask the Ss to do the same and -match the words with the opposites - call some students to write the answers on the board - elicit the stress of the words -drill put Ss in new pairs -write on the board: 'Istiklal in Istanbul is very crowded' - ask Ss what else they can use instead of 'very' -elicit and write 'really', 'quite' -ask them to write similar sentences for 5 other places (first you write a model sentence) -ask some pairs to read their answers
-slide 1 of the powerpoint file: show the pictures and ask: 1. Do you know the name of this place? - Pass out HO2 and ask the students to mingle and 1. ask the questions from their classmates 2. write the responder's name and his/her answer in front of the question -then ask them to compare their answers with their partners -go over some of the answers
(HO3) 1- ask Ss to read the text and -choose 3 things they can do in Phuket and 3 things in Bangkok - then check with their group mates 2- put Ss in pairs -ask them to read the text about two holiday places again and -choose one for a holiday -tell their partners the reason behind their choice
HO4 -show the information boxes about Phuket and Bangkok -ask Ss to read them and - with their partners decide whether the sentences on HO4 are 'true' or 'false' - go over the answers, or ask them to check with another group
ask Ss to choose 'Bangkok' or 'Phuket' for a holiday then explain their partner the reason behind their choice ask: where do you want to go? Phuket or Bangkok? listen to some answers and wrap up the lesson
