Procedure (31-45 minutes)
- Present to the students pictures of the Holy month of Ramadan and Kahk and ask them the following questions: can you guess which month is this? What Muslims do in Ramadan? Do they eat? Do they drink? From fajr until? What is this? When do people eat it? (eliciting the topic festivals), Are these festivals interesting? Do people gather and meet in festivals? (checking meaning). -Start drilling (all of them together, groups and individuals) the following: Festival : /ˈfestɪvl/ (noun) Fascinating: /ˈfæsɪneɪtɪŋ/ (adj) , highlight stress in festival and fascinating and then write the topic on the board.
-Set the task, make instructions clear (read the text and match), demonstrate the activity with them, each one on his own followed by pair check then feedback. -Set the next task (1b and 1c), make instructions clear, demonstrate the activity with them,read the passage again, work in pairs then together answer the questions. -Set the follow up speaking activity (2b), make instructions clear, work in pairs, write questions to use on the board.
-Present pictures of Christmas tree, coffee, autumn and novelist and ask them CCQs What is this? So the name of the festival is...? Which season is this? What are the other 3 seasons? Who is this? What does he write? So he is a... -Set the task, give instructions (match questions at the bottom of the page with their answers above them each one on his own) and demonstrate, pair check while monitoring, then feedback. - Set the listening task (5b), instructions and demo, answer alone, check with partner, then feedback. -Set listening task (5c), instructions, answer alone, check with partner then give them handouts.
