Main Aims

To provide clarification of possessive 's including some examples from the text help students understand easily comparing with contraction of 's.Students should be able to describe their family with using some base verbs such as go,live,have and like.
Subsidiary Aims
-
To provide specific information and detailed listening practice, the students can explain their family with using possessive 's.
Procedure (29-43 minutes)
-Show some pictures from my family, then give some information about my family.
-Show the picture of Rick. -Talk about Rick and guess who Rick is when students close their books. -Listen Headway T1.6. - Ask some questions about Rick. 1) How old is he? 2)Where is he from? 3)Does Rick have a sister or brother? 4)Is Rick married? 5)Does Rick have a girlfriend?
-Listen the text about Rick -Ss complete the sentences about Rick. -Listen T1.7 to check the answer with your partner. -Teacher and students control the answers.
- Explain and give examples about some basic verbs: go to, live with,have,like. -Students complete the sentences individually. -Then SS come in the middle of the classroom and tell each other about their sentences. -After this exercise, one student come near the table and chooses a paper from the box related with basic verbs.When he/she chooses a paper from the box, he/she tries to make sentences with basic verbs.
-Write some sentences on the board to show the difference between possessive 's and contraction of 's My name's Zeynep. 's= is My sister's name is Zeynep 's= possession/her name Levent's phone= his phone Atike's bag=her bag - Take some objects from the students such as pen,bookcase,phone etc. Ask his or her name and show the object and say ' Perihan's pen=her pen'. Collect seven or eight object and put the table.Then, a student will come and pick the object and say 'Perihan's pen=her pen'. She/he gives the object to his/her firends. -SS look at the text about Rick's family and they underline examples of the possessive 's and circle the contraction of 's with their partners.
-SS close their books and listen T1.6 again. -SS fill in the blanks what they heard. -Then teacher checks and controls the answer. -SS answer the questions in exercise 5 with their partners. -Teacher gives feedback to whole class and elicits about students' family.
