To provide clarification of language used for permission, obligation, prohibition, lack of obligation in the present in the context of dream homes

To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of a community in which students will live for the next one year.
Procedure (42-56 minutes)
show students a picture of a mansion and tell them it will be our new home. elicit where they think it is, what people can and can't do there, what they must and mustn't do.
tell students to look at the text; line 24 and 31 to find out what is prohibited, line 34 to see what is permitted, and 36 for the obligation and line 16 for lack of obligation. Elicit the answers from students but no need to write them on the board In pairs, students match the rules and phrases 1-4. when done,tell students to look under their desks to find the correct answers .
clarify some concepts that could be hard for students eg difference between obligation and prohibition, drill for correct pronunciation of connected words like ( hafta, mustn't)
ask students if they have rules where they live. Then tell them about some rules in my house, model an example and students do ex 3 on page 27, monitor and make sure students are doing the right task and help where necessary. when they have finished, they pair check to see whose rules are stricter.
put students into groups of 3 or 4 , provide each student with a paper containing one of the words in the box on page 27, and they must keep it secret. Each student must describe the place and others guess which place is being described. The teacher should model first.
divide students into groups of 4.Tell them that they have a new home and they will set up their own community, show them the picture of "our community" on HO. tell them that they have to give their community a name and decide what kind of community it is and what is special about it. give the groups the HO, one per group and let them make notes on the HO for ex 1 and 2, 1 student can act as a secretary. then tell them that they have to think of some rules for the community, get them to unfold the HO and complete the Community declaration. Ss work together discussing and completing the task, monitor and check that they are using target language correctly and correct any errors collect HO and put the on the board. Get the ss to come up and read each others and decide which one is the best and they'd like to live in. when they have sat down, get them to vote on the best and give reasons for their choice.
