Description

In this lesson, students learn new vocabulary mostly adjectives that helps them describe towns and cities. The lesson starts with a lead-in situational presentation to generate interest in the topic of the lesson. Followed by MPF method to elicit and drill TL. Then the Ss will be given a controlled practice based on the TL in order to encourage accuracy. Finally they will have a freer practice, via a writing activity to promote fluency.

Main Aims

  • To provide practice of nouns and adjectives in the context of describing towns and cities.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide a free writing practice of a short paragraph in the context of describing a place of choice in pairs or groups.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Starting with a lead-in story, situational presentation about a trip i made to Rio. The story will include most of the hardest new vocab for Ls. Pictures will be shown on the screen to give more indirect explanation of the words.

Test #1 (8-10 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

This step takes place right after the lead-in finishes. It starts with posting pictures of different vocab on the board and asking CCQs to figure out the amount of knowledge Ss possess of the TL. Then asking the students to match the definition with the right word.

Teach (5-10 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

Starting with a feedback for the last activity. This time will be solving any complexity regarding the meaning. Demonstrating on the board how to use these words in sentences.

Test #2 (7-10 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

This is the time for exercise 2 in the student's book. a freer practice on writing.

Free practice (13-15 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Using exercise 3 for another freer practice. Describing a place of choice.
