Description
Materials
Main Aims
-
To provide practice and clarification of extreme adjectives in the context of events and celebrations
Subsidiary Aims
-
To provide accuracy in speaking practice in a conversation in the context of events and celebrations
Procedure (50-50 minutes)
I will have 6 pictures on the projector of various different events and celebrations. I will ask students to identify what is happening in each photo and which events they are most likely to attend and why.
Students will work in pairs to identify what items of vocabulary match with each picture on the board. I will print the vocabulary (eg. audience clapping, people going wild) so that each student has a copy of the vocab. We will go through the answers as a whole class once the task is completed.
After matching the vocabulary to the pictures, we will go through the answers as a class. During this time I will be concept checking each item and asking the stronger students to explain meanings to those who do not know what the different phrases mean.
Students will answer the questions in exercise 3 about carnivals in their country, whether they enjoy crowds and how they react if they are in crowds of people who are singing and dancing. I will be monitoring during this activity and encouraging students to use the vocabulary learn in the previous exercise.
Students will match definitions for extreme adjectives in exercise 1 on page 73 from the TB. Following completion they will check with their neighbours to make sure they have all gotten the correct answers.
Give students a "fill in the gaps" exercise to show understand of the extreme adjectives. Check answers in pairs.
Students will work in pairs to create 3 sentences each relating to events/celebration, using the vocab from ex 1 on page 72, extreme adjectives and intensifiers.
