Description

In this lesson, students learn vocabulary related to law and order through reading. Students practice reading for skim, gist and detail comprehension. The reading lesson is about a couple of incompetent bank robbers, who make the mistake of wearing tights in order to hide their faces-but the tights are too small for them.Because of this they can't see properly and make some disastrous mistakes trying to rob a bank, before finally ending up in hospital and being arrested by the police.

Procedure

Lead in (2-3 minutes) • Detailed reading activity on a newspaper article on a failed bank robbery

Lead in : Watch the video and talk to your partner what will happen to the robbers. T plays a 1.40 minutes video clip on Bonie and clyde bank robbery. 1.T asks ss what will happen to the robbers? 2.Where are the robbers now? T elicits the word witnesses by asking 3.Did anyone one see the robbery?

pre- reading (3-4 minutes) • To unblock blocking words

1.Can you guess what the story is going to be? T unblocks the Blocking words like masks, laundrette and stick-up, and tights. T elicits the word' mask' by asking 1. What do clowns wear to hide their face? T elicits the word 'launderette' 2. A place where you can wash and dry your clothes in machines that you operate by putting in coins. T elicits the word 'tights' These are a type of clothing that women wear on their feet and legs. T elicits the word 'stick-up' 3.What's another name for robbery?

Reading (4-5 minutes) • Predict the story

1. T points to the 2nd paragraph and asks the SS to read the 2nd paragraph . (Tpoints to the paragraph on the HO) 2.T asks the ss to predict whats going to happen? Talk to your partner. ICQ what do you do? predict what is going to happen next? "What will happen next?" ss predicts CCQ What is your prediction? Talk to your partner and write a heading.

Reading (5-6 minutes) • speaking

T shows the newspaper article points to the article and ask the ss to read and answer the questions. T asks ss to read the newspaper article that is given in the HO. T asks the ss to read the article and think of a headline in their group T asks(5 minutes)ss to read the article Afteraprx 5 minutes )in their group, T asks the ss to suggest a headline for the article. T expects the answer to be "jail for comedy crooks."

Reading (11-12 minutes) • Reading for detail

T asks the ss to read the article again and answer the question. Answer the 2 nd questions from 1-8 (t points to the questions on HO Then discuss with your partner. T gives ss 7 minutes to answer the questions

Post reading (6-7 minutes) • Reading for detail

T asks the ss to check the answer from the person sitting next to them. T monitors Tr asks ss to discuss T asks ss to vocalise the reason for their choice. Get ss FB

If time permits T asks the ss to the vocabulary exercise (3-4 minutes) • ss complete the article with words from the box

1.T asks the students to look at the WB. 2.T shows how to do the 1st exercise by doing an example. 3.T points to the vocab exercise and asks ss to complete 2-6. 4.When students complete the activity, T asks ss to check the answer from the person who is sitting next to them. WC FB
