Materials
Main Aims
-
To provide clarification and practice of vocabulary for everyday activities in the context of stressful & healthy lifestyles
Subsidiary Aims
-
To provide practice of simple present & speaking for accuracy & fluency
Procedure (36-59 minutes)
Start with a brief warmer to get Ss interested in the topic and to set context. Play hangman to elicit “healthy & stressful”. Set up some pw/gw for Ss to discuss what people do in healthy or stressful lives.
Find out what Ss know in terms of vocabulary through (ex1a). Make Ss listen to sounds and the given vocabulary in order - do the first one in open-class as a model. Let Ss peer-check before w/c FB.
Further check what Ss know through personalisation (ex1b). Let Ss work alone to put the activities in order for their days, then let them work in pairs/small groups to tell each other. Model first to encourage Ss tell each other not just show their lists.
clarify meaning of the TL (ex1c). Set the context for a healthy & stressful day. Divide the class into two groups (A & B). Ss work together to match words and pictures for their half of the task on p156. Give answer keys to each group for them to check their answers together. Regroup Ss into pairs (A+B) for them to teach the vocabulary to the others. Monitor & give some general FB. In FB, check Ss know which part is the verb.
clarify pronunciation of the TL (ex2a-b). Give Ss the sentences & the listen & mark the links. Drill more than once for FB and corrections.
Introduce the card game where Ss work in groups to take a card, describe it & put the cards in order for the person’s day. Before the task, set context and quickly check Ss can tell the time. Monitor and take notes for FB & delayed error correction.
If-time – Freer practice – encourage Ss to personalise the TL. If time, Ss tell each other about their days & decide whether they have healthy or stressful days.
