Description

In this lesson students learn about likes and dislikes through guided discovery based on a listening. The lesson starts with a discussion about free time activities.This is followed with matching the pictures to the activities in pairs. Finally there is some controlled reading and post listening activities.

Main Aims

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Set the context of free time activities by talking about things you like and don’t like doing then focus ss on the pics. Ss match the pictures to the activities in pairs

Pre-Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Focus the Ss on the picture of Adele and ask ss what they know about her. Play a snippet of one of her famous songs and get the class to guess who the singer is.

listening for gist (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information listening tasks

Tell Ss they will listen to a podcast about Adele and they should listen and answer questions 1 & 2 as well as check what they know about her. Peer check, WGFB Ss listen to the second part of the recording and tick the things they hear. Peer check, WGFB

Reading for specific info (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Ss now listen to the whole podcast and choose the correct answers. Give Ss a copy of the sentences and get them to first guess the answers (based on what they remember) then listen and check their answers. Peer Check, WGFB.

Post-Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Ss discuss the question in pairs. Provide ss with the lyrics to one of Adele’s songs with a few blanks. Ss listen to fill in the blanks. Ss listen again and sing along with the song.
