Description

In this lesson, students read a text about the digital world and advantages and disadvantages of internet. They are going to talk about its disadvantages and advantages and their effects of internet in our lifestyle.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist, scan and detailed reading practice using a text about Our digital world in the context of Technology and they are going to learn some information about the internet history.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a discussion in the context of technology and they are going to talk about the internet and its influence on their lifestyle.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

- Show ss a picture about digital world and elicit them some questions about the picture

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

- Put students in pairs - Ask them to make a list of the positive and negative things about the internet with their partners. - Take WC feedback

While-Reading/Listening #1 (5-8 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

- Give them a matching heading task and ask them to read the article and match the headings to paragraphs of the text. - Check their answers with partners. - Write the correct answers on the board and ask them to check their answers.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (8-12 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

- ask them to read the article again and find some information about the dates, people and things which I give them. - Put them into groups and ask them to compare their answers. - Take a WC feedback.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

- Put ss into groups - Give ss a HO which consists of 3 questions based on the article and they should discuss with their partners. - Take WC feedback about the questions.

Freer practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

- Put the ss into groups - Give ss a HO which consists of three questions about internet and their lifestyle. - Ask them to discuss with their partners - Ask some of the ss to change their groups and share their ideas together. - Take a WC feedback.
