Description

In this lesson, sts will learn about how to talk about their regrets through a reading followed by a speaking activity.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide scan, gist and detailed reading practice using a text about regret

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in the context of Regret

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will show some pictures to sts and elicit the word regret and talk about how regret feels like. "have you ever regretted anything?"

Pre-Reading (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

I will give the students 5 sentences about a research about regret and ask them to determine if they are True or False individually then check in pairs.

While-Reading (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

I will give the sts a glossary which defines 1 quote and 2 idioms and a reading about regret and ask them to read it and answer the T/F questions again and mention which line are the answers.check in pairs and show the answers on the board.

While-Reading (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

i will give the sts a test for understanding the definition of percentages and ask them to do it individually without looking at the text, then pass the paper to the person next to them, check the answers and showing the answer key. I will give the sts the part b of the reading which is 20 sentences about common things people regret about, ask the students to write which ones they think are the top 5, then mingle and check their answers in pairs. i will show the correct answer or play it from a recording.

Post-Reading (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

I will ask students to walk around the classroom and ask each other what are their top 3 regrets
