Description

In this lesson, students learn how to ask questions about the number of objects or persons using the expression ' How many'. The lesson starts with a speaking task where students are asked to describe a picture, followed by a limited production task.

  • To provide practice of asking about quantity using 'how many' in the context of family

  • To provide review of family lexis

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

ask the student to remind me of what we have seen last lesson, ( physical description and the different adjectives we have seen)

Exposure (3-5 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

(speaking task) : present the picture on textbook page 40, ask the students to close the books and try to tell me the different objects they saw in the picture.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

I ask the students how flags are there in the picture? how many SD's ect..I then ask them what is the expression we used to ask about the quantity?

Clarification (6-9 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

I write the grammar notion on the board and explain the MFP( Meaning Form Pronounciation )

Controlled Practice (5-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

In pairs , students will prepare five questions to ask to each other using ' how many' ? Then , they will ask each other and answer.
