Main Aims
-
To provide Ss with clarification and practice of comparative and superlaive structures in the context of doing sport.
Subsidiary Aims
-
To give Ss practice in listening (for gist and detail) and speaking for accuracy in the context of doing different sports
Procedure (38-48 minutes)
Show the photos of Toby and Kate. Ask: 'Who are they? What sports are they interested in?' Ss predict. Write the predictions on the w/b. Ask Ss what sport they would like to do.
Tell Ss that they are going to listen to two interviews and guess which sports Toby and Kate do. Give them HO1 which has this task and some pictures of the words they are going to hear. Let Ss go through the words and then play Tracks 1.16-1.17. Ss guess in pairs. Whole-class feedback.
Tell Ss that they are going to listen again and fill in the blanks in the tapescripts (HO2). Play Track 1.16-1.17. Ss check in pairs. Whole-class feedback.
Show an example of TL from the tapescript. Ask Ss CCQ (see Language Analysis). Elicit form. Let Ss fill in the table in ex.1 (HO3) with the adjectives they wrote in HO2. Ss complete the table in pairs. Check in pairs and with the whole-class.
Elicit an example and give the instructions for the ex 2 (HO3). Ss work individually. Then check in pairs and with the whole-class.
Ss complete ex 3 (HO3) with their own opinions about different sports. Share your opinions in small groups and see if others agree with you.
Ss do the Speaking task (HO3) in pairs. Then 2 pairs make a small group and share the answers. Whole-class feedback.
