Description

In this lesson, the sts will be provided reading practice of the Hollywood remakes. T will clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the TL. (The past tense of to be is was/were.) The sts will practice how to say years. T will read a story about herself. T will ask the sts to write this kind of story about their partners.They will check the stories by asking questions if the story is correct or not about their partners.

Main Aims

  • To clarify and practice the past tense of verb to be (was/were)

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide reading practice of the Hollywood remakes.

Procedure

Warmer / Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • to set lesson context and engage the sts.

Show the sts 2 Turkish film posters. Ask the sts what their names are. Which one is new? Which one is old? then write 1975 and 2003 . Ask Which one is original and Which one is remake.. Ask questions about this movies." When was it ? who was in it? Was it good or bad?

Pre- Reading (2-3 minutes) • To prepare the sts for the reading text.

Show the sts four film posters. Ask them to guess these films' names and what they know about these films.

While Reading (4-4 minutes) • To provide the sts with less challenging gist reading task.

The sts will read the article. This is a quick reading. They don't need to understand all words in the article. They will speak to their partners and they will match the paragraphs to the film posters.

While Reading #2 (5-6 minutes) • To provide the sts more challengingdetailed reading task.

The sts will read the article again and complete the sentences (reading ex:2). T will do the first exercise as an example.The sts will check their answers in pairs. For FB, T will ask the sts to write the answers on the WB.

Post Reading (5-6 minutes) • To provide the sts with speaking practice in the context of remakes.

Ask the sts "What other Hollywood or Turkish remakes do you know? What are their names? What are their names in your language? This is GW. Elicit these from the sts in the class. Then show the sts two American and two Turkish remakes.Ask the sts to talk about these remakes. What do they know about them?.

Presentation of Grammar (8-8 minutes) • To clarify the meaning , form and pronunciation of the TL.

Give the meaning of the past tense verb to be (was / were). Elicit these from the sts. Write on the WB. Kemal sunal was alive. Adile Naşit was alive. They were alive. Türkan Şoray was beautiful. Kadir Inanir was handsome. They were young. Give the form. I/He/She/It was....... You/We/They wre...... Drill the pronunciations of was and were I was.............. They were........ /wəz / /wə /

Controlled Practice (3-4 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice of TL.

This is PW. Ask the sts to find the past tense of verb to be ( was/ were) in the text and circle them.Show the first one on the WB. They will do the remaining exercises with their partners.

Semi Controlled (3-4 minutes) • To prepare the sts for the free practice

Give the sts HO1 (six sentences). Ask them to put the sentences in the past tense.

Semi Controlled #2 (4-5 minutes) • To prepare the sts for the free practice

Give the sts HO2(five sentences). Ask them to complete the text about television shows and films with the verb to be in the past. İt is a PW.

Vocabulary and Pronunciation (3-4 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice of TL.

The sts will listen to dates and repeat them. Write eight dates on a paper. Show the sts and ask them to say dates. For first one , model how to say dates. Give them HO3. Play the recording ( Straightforward SB record number 2.25). The sts will listen to recording and find out these famous peoples' birth years. (HO3)

Free Practice (7-7 minutes) • To provide the sts with free practice of the TL.

Read a story about yourself.(HO4). Then ask the sts write this kind of story about their partners. The sts will guess and write a story about their partners. They will ask questions to check their stories are correct or not.
