Procedure (44-55 minutes)
I will tell a story about how my friend doesn't turn the central heater on and ask the learners "what about you?why?" and how she never separates recyclable and non- recyclable wastes and ask the students "is it important?"
i will divide the board in two, write "Car pollution" on the left and "Solar panels" on the right, elicit that the item on the left is environmental problem and on the left is the solution to an environmental problem. I will give some students board markers and ask them to write one more example on the board and pass the marker to someone else as soon as they wrote(BrainStorm). if the board doesn't fill quickly or students didn't know the words; I'll give the students "Straightforward upper- intermediate, p. 66, ex 1" and ask them to fill the gaps with right words and check in pairs, in both cases i'll give the students the words in ex1 and the definition of them on paper.
I will give the learners P67 of straightforward, upper- intermediate student's book and ask them to match the pictures A-F to stories 1-6 individually and then check in pairs and write/show the answers on the board.
i will explain the meaning of "An ill wind" and give learners Handout 1, i'll ask them to read the text again and complete the stories 1-6 with the sentences a-f individually, check in pairs and show/write the answers on the board. after that i'll give the learners Handout 2 and ask the learners to match the 5 highlighted words on the text (page 67) to the 5 phrases in the handout, for feedback learners will stand up and check their answers (and the words they don't know) with each other.
i will ask the learners to work in pairs and discuss that what would they comment on the each story? and ask the to share their ideas with the classroom. if time, give the learners handout 3 and ask them to walk round the classroom and take note on how many of the things written on the handout do their classmate do regularly.
