To introduce Ss to the functional language used when talking on the phone

To give Ss practice in listening and speaking
Procedure (28-45 minutes)
Give Ss a cut up and jumbled conversation. Ss work in pairs to put it in order. Monitor and check. Give Ss an HO of the answer key to check their answers. Elicit where are the people talking(on the phone).
Write " just minute" on the board. Ask Ss if this sentence is correct. Elicit the right answer. Hold up the HO and tell Ss to correct the mistake in each sentence . Ss work and correct the mistakes. Monitor. Ss then check in pairs. Give Ss the audio scripts and tell them to check . Write on the board " I'm Jack or This is Jack" and " Is that Sarah? or Are you Sarah?" Elicit which are correct when talking on the phone. Highlight the right pronunciation, intonation and sentence stress by drilling chorally and individually.
Focus Ss on the four conversations and the box of the sentences. Tell Ss to fill in the gaps in these four conversations with sentences from the box. Demonstrate with the first one. Monitor to check if Ss doing the right task. Ss then listen to the four dialogues and check their answers. Put Ss in pairs. Ss role play the four conversations together but using information about themselves. Monitor around.
Elicit from the Ss some expressions used when talking on the phone and write them on the board. Choose a student and demonstrate a simple phone call with them. Show the Ss the cards and tell them to read them and take turns talking on the phone. Put Ss in pairs A and B. Ss take turns call and answer the phone. Monitor to help and correct any mistakes if necessary.
