Vocabulary - At the shop
A1/A2 level

Description

In this lesson, students will be introduced to vocabulary related to shopping. I am going to start off my lesson with an interesting video of people shopping in a mall. Elicit the topic from the student then start with the ex 1 in the F2F student book p:42, it will be a group work (HO). Ex 2 take a look at the vocabulary then move on to the ex v 5.3 p: 131 (HO). I will try to drill when it is needed since most of these words the students are familiar with. Ex 3, will be a practical exercise for ex 2 (HO). Ex 4 is a listening practice and I will give (HO) and then we will listen to a recording. Ex 5 (The use of One&Ones ) will be projected on the board and explained (WC).Ex 6 will be a reading exercise (HO) students will work in pairs with a potential to bring up some students to practice some speaking.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of shopping items in the context of being At the shops.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist listening practice using a HO from F2F student's book about shopping items.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-8 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students and give a clue about the lesson's title.

Short video about shoppers go crazy on black Friday. What do you see in that video? Are people happy? What are they doing? Why are they buying a lot of things? Do you know what do they call that day? Then eliciting the topic from the students. Write the title on the board.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

- Ex 1 F2F p 42. I will project the exercise on the board ask the students to work in pairs and discuss the questions. It will engage the students to the topic and let them share some ideas about the topic. 1- Do you like shopping? Why? Why not? 2- When do you usually go shopping? -Ex 2 F2F p 42. Tick the word you know. It will give them some new words as an introduction for the exercise on page 131 Monitoring for both exercises is a necessity.

Productive Task(s): Speaking (5-8 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

- After doing the exercise on page 131, Students can do ex #3 efficiently. They will work in pairs. I will monitor and check.

Receptive task (Listening) (8-10 minutes) • More practice for TL

- Listen for the first time then answer this question: Which shops are Martina and Alex in? - Listen again and fill the gaps. PW and peer checking with a close monitor.

Useful vocabulary (1-2 minutes) • Learn new vocaulary one/ones

Ex 5, using the projector: highlighting the tip ask the students to fill the gaps then move on.

Receptive task (Reading) (5-8 minutes) • More practice for TL

- Students will read first. Answer the question: Which shops are Martina and Alex in? WC feedback. - PW: change the nouns in bold to one and ones. PW check. Teacher monitoring. - Listening: WC check
