Procedure (35-51 minutes)
A picture of a fisherman in a village is shown on the board. The teacher asks some questions and elicits the answers from the Ss to provide the context for reading the text.
Pre-teaching some vocabulary items will be done through ECDW. Then Ss are asked to predict what the topic of the reading will be. Then, the teacher will ask some general questions like What does a businessman do? Is he rich or not?
The Ss read the tiny paragraph at the beginning of the text. Then, they are asked to answer the questions in part 1, p.50. They check their answers in pairs. As a feedback technique, Ss nominate one of their peers to read the right answer. Next, they will listen to part 2 p.50. feedback: in pairs they express their ideas and after that the teacher asks them to express their ideas to the whole class with reasons.
In the next stage, they are asked to read the questions in part 3, p.50., then read the reading text individually (reading for details) which is followed by answering the questions. Feedback: Ss will write down the answers on the board.
The Ss work in 2 groups. They teacher asks them to express their ideas whether they like to be the fisherman or the businessman. Why? It helps them improve their autonomy. They will have the chance to communicate and they can even relate it to an experience in their own lives. Personalization is really helpful in motivating them which will lead them to speak (productive skill).
