Description

The main aim of this lesson is the Vocabulary, students are introduced to some expressions that are used to describe problems in the home. Students learn their meaning, form and pronunciation. A speaking activity is set for a further practice.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of leaking, burst, come off, stuck... in the context of describing problems in the home.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in discussing real life situations related to problems in the home.

Procedure

Stage1 (3-5 minutes) • Lesson introduction

-Post a picture of kurt's home and philip's home(from the previous lesson). *Ask students to identify some of the problems kurt and philip talked about.

Stage 2: (8-10 minutes) • Students identify problems

- Give instructions about matching problems with pictures. -Distribute HO -Feeback

Stage 3: Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

After the problem identification phase: -The expressions used in the previous task posted on the board for highlighting purpose. -Circle each expression related to describing problem at home (tap's leaking, pipe's burst...)

Stage4: Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

-Clarify the meaning and form of: *to leak *to burst *come off *flat *flooded -Drill pronunciation

Stage5 :Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • Students use the expressions they learnt to complete the sentences.

-Give instructions: *The task includes 8 sentences related to home problems, *Students should use the expressions they learnet to fill in the blanks according to the situation. *Ask Students to work in pairs, *ICQs *Distribute HO, *FB.

Stage6 :Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

-Post cartoon -Introduce "Katherine" and "Charles" -Read what katherine told charles : *"If you don't do something about that leaking tap soon i'm going to get someone do it." -Ask students * Which problems would they be able to solve by themselves or would they do like katherine and get help? *Ask students to work in pairs, *FB.

Stage7: Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

- Ask students to discuss these questions: *Have you ever had problems like these at home? What happened? *Students will mingle around. *FB and error correction.
