Description

In this lesson students learn about the past simple and continuous through guided discovery based on listening to people talk about (first meetings). The lesson starts with a discussion about first impressions.This is followed by listen to some people talk about their first meetings .Finally there is some controlled practice through complete sentences with the suitable form of the verbs and free practice via a final speaking activity.

Procedure (42-57 minutes)

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

speaking practice to discuss some questions about first impressions in small groups,and listen to some people talk about how they met important people in their life

Exposure (5-8 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Use the tapescript to find to examples of:regular past simple ,irregular past simple ,past continuous verbs

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Highlight the form of the two tenses (positive,negative,and question)

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language
