in this grammar lesson students learn about what is simple past and how to use in their daily conversations with some student to student and teacher to student practices.

Materials

Abc video
Abc ready sentences and conversations to make them using past simple
Abc small story about past printed on papers
Abc past simple conversation records between people

Main Aims

  • • To provide clarification of using past sentences and past simple grammar to explode their sphere of sentences.

Subsidiary Aims

  • • To provide the fluency and accuracy speaking practice in discussions and a conversation in the context of past

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

by telling them about my yesterday or past few hours events (interesting them in using past sentences)

Exposure (3-5 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

telling them what i did and why i used these new grammar

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

showing them the form of past simple on the board and using sentences to make it easy to understand then play a record about past simple conversation for promoumciation

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

then starting a conversation between myself and students. asking them about yesterday and help them to use past simple right. read a story each student by her/his self and ask to underline past simple then read it loudly.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

let them to follow conversation between them selves two by two and then in small groups and i will listen to them carefully to get if they totally understood the lesson or not and amendment their mistakes

Free Practice (10-15 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

ask them to write small story with past simple or doing their work book practice. speak with their friends with past simple sentences.

Anticipated Problems & Solutions

PROBLEM: Ss might be confused about the grammar. SOLUTION: make the grammar more tangible with simple examples. PROBLEM: The Ss are of a lower level than expected and have trouble answering the reading tasks set. SOLUTION: Encourage as much peer-support as possible, monitor and help as required, really focus on justification of answers in feedback, allow longer for the tasks.
