Procedure (45-55 minutes)
introduce words with hangman; -DVD -CD -suggestions -bought -
write sentences with target language on the board, stick pictures of jewellery, wallet and someone gifting another on the board. what shall i buy my mum for her birthday? i bought my mum jewellery for her birthday. what do you suggest i gift my dad for his birthday? i gifted my dad a wallet for his birthday. happy birthday sevda, this is for you. thank you, it's lovely. drill these sentences for pronunciation and fluency. ask students to talk in pairs about what they would buy friends/family for their birthday. use this sentence structure and practice.
listen to tape without writing. ask students to discuss in pairs. listen again. ask students to fill in the gaps while listening the second time. discuss answers in pairs.
move on to q10. asking/making suggestions. tell them to use the same word for all the statements in these two areas. ask individual students their answers and write different examples on the board. (shall, should) move onto q11. practice conversing in pairs until they remember the conversation by heart. ask students to close their books.
move onto q12 separate class into four groups and get them to make a list of typical birthday presents(2min) draw them on paper and choose one present for one member of a member of another group. get students to stand up and practice giving and receiving presents. happy birthday ____ , this is for you. oh, thank you! its lovely.
