Procedure (40-51 minutes)
Tell them that as you know many things has changed with technology such as our way of learning and communication. Also, we have started to have new health and psychological problems that we didn't have before or the degree of already existing problems has increased such as eye disorders, back pains, being obese, being unsocial and computer addiction. Ask them to discuss in pairs what other health problems we have due to technology. Elicit answers.
Tell that they will read a text about one of the health problems caused by technology. Show two of the pictures about cyberchondriac and ask them to guess what the text is about in pairs. Elicit answers. Show the title on powerpoint and ask them to guess the meaning of cyberchondriac and hypocondriac. Elicit answers.
Ask them to read in 3 minutes and check if their predictions related to the meanings of the words are right or wrong. Discuss the meanings in pairs and come up with a definition. For feedback, nominate a few students to share their definitions.
Post 4 copies of the text on the wall and make students 4 groups. Give them the topic sentences and ask them to stand up and match the topic sentences and post them to the top of the related paragraphs. Also, give each student one copy of the text and topic sentences to make it easier for them to read. For feedback, show the answers on powerpoint.
Ask them to work in pairs and deliver the vocabulary worksheets. Ask them to find the words from the text and guess the meanings and then, match the words with meanings. For feedback, listen the answers and check and then ask if they have any problems or questions.
Make them watch the video. Ask them to discuss in groups of four if they are cyberchondriacs, if they check their symptoms before visiting a doctor, what the advantages and disadvantages of checking the symptoms online, how it affects a doctor's reaction if you check it before and interfere with his/her job. give the possible questions that they can ask eachother. For feedback, nominate one student from each group to talk about what they have discussed and their answers to the questions.
