Main Aims
-
To provide clarification of the language form (verb + -ing) in the context of complaining about some technical issues and suggesting some solutions
Subsidiary Aims
-
To provide accuracy speaking practice through a conversation in the context of a work place , and through a game to practice more verbs with the same structure
Procedure (34-59 minutes)
To lead in I will ask some questions regarding the previous listening file they listened to in previous lesson. Then I will write two specific sentences on the board.
I will talk about the form, and I will show them a powerpoint slide with 3 sentences on it having the same structure. In these slides I have highlighted the verbs and the following -ing prefix of the second verb.
I will drill the form with students to make sure that they have learned the structure and can use it in a controlled way.
in this stage the students will work on the sentence ending matching exercise. they will work on it in pairs, and then they will go to the board and and match the sentence endings on the board. They will practice saying chucks of these sentences, and I am going to model the sentences.
Their next exercise will be matching the meaning of each sentence to "complaining" or "giving advice and suggestions" part. It is a pair work activity, and will be checked on the board afterwards.
This step's exercise is a conversation between two people in a work place. They will receive a paper containing the conversation's script with some blank parts. First in pairs, they will try to guess the missing verbs in correct form. Then they will listen to the listening file to check them.
The free practice will be a board game. In this game, the students will have a chance to make sentences with the same structure and help each other in correcting mistakes. They will work on this exercise in groups of 4.
