To provide gist and specific information listening practice using a text about The serious leisure perspective in the context of Work & Leisure

To provide fluency speaking practice and use vocabulary related with the leisure activities
Procedure (35-45 minutes)
T will show pictures to elicit from SS what the activities are ( going for a walk, watching TV, reading books,playing chess, do the gardening, chatting with friends, cooking, collecting stamps) and the general name of them. Possible Feedback: free / spare time activities BUT - Encourage SS - give clue- to find the word "LEISURE".
- Give the students HO1 including verbs chat, collect,cook,do, go for, play, read and watch - Ask them to match the verbs with the nouns ( books, a walk etc.) Indiv.done / Feedback: pair-check & answer key
- Give SS HO2( chart) showing how Americans spend their leisure time. -Ask them to work in pairs and discuss the questions: 1) Is there anything that surprise you? 2) Is it similar to how you spend your leisure time? whole-class feedback
Before listening: -Write Casual leisure and Serious leisure on the board and elicit from SS what they might mean. ( WC) - Tell SS that they are going to hear a presentation about The serious leisure perspective -Show the HO3 ( chested ) including mixed slides. -Hand out the HO3 showing slides and give SS time to look at the pictures before listening -Ask them to put the slides in the correct order while listening. whole-class feedback
-T hands out the HO4 including 5 questions and gives students time to read the questions. Ss listen and answer the questions. [T can play a second time, if necessary] -Pair-check and then Feedback: Answer key
In pairs, - SS will ask each other these questions: * Which do you prefer, casual or serious leisure activities and Why? -Be sure that SS have learned the differences between "serious" and "casual" leisure whole-class feedback -Monitor SS -Delayed error correction, as necessary
