Procedure (37-48 minutes)
Write on the board (before Ss arrive to class) "Call the doctor?". Ask Ss "When do you call the doctor?". Discuss for 2 min with a partner. Monitor class and help if needed. FB- Nominate Ss to share thoughts. Write S vocab on the board.
Show 6 pictures from the first aid quiz and keywords to match with the pictures (from PP slide). Ask Ss to match pictures with words that best describe the situation. Divide class into 2 groups. Monitor groups and help if needed with vocab. FB - Nominate group members to share answers (3 answers each group). Ask CCQ to check understanding about vocab if needed. When someone is choking, "Can he talk or breathe?" When someone collapsed, "Did he fall suddenly?, Can he respond?" When someone is burned, "Was there something hot, such as hot liquid, fire etc?" When someone is bleeding "Do you see blood?" When someone has a broken bone "Does it hurt a lot?, Can he move that body part?"
Show Ss the first aid quiz. Ss will complete the quiz with a partner. Time for this activity will be 5 minutes. Monitor pairs and help if needed. FB - Nominate Ss to give answers. Mark them on the board over the PP slide. Don't give them the answers yet.
Show Ss additional First Aid text. Divide the class into 2 groups. Each group will read through 3 first aid instructions and check their answers from the quiz and make correction if needed. Then Ss will pair up with someone from the other group to exchange knowledge and review answers from previous activity. Monitor Ss - help if needed. FB- Nominate Ss to correct the quiz if needed.
Write down on the board: Twisted or sprained ankle , unconscious person. Elicit meaning from Ss. Ask ICQs to check understanding. What type of word is it? Twisted/sprained - verb (past form) - [noun - a sprain], What else can you twist/sprain? Wrist or another joint. What type of word is it? Adj. unconscious [noun- the unconscious], Are you aware of things happening around you? Do you remember anything? Show Vocab HO and ask Ss to match causes to symptoms. Ss will work in pairs to complete the activity. Monitor - help if needed. FB - Nominate Ss to give answers.
Ss will answer following questions with a partner. Qs will be projected to the board. Have you ever been in a situation where you had to give first aid? Who to? Why? What happened? Has anyone ever had to give you first aid? What happened? Monitor - pay attention to language FB - Nominate Ss to share what they've learned about their partner.
