To introduce and Give Ss practice in Present Simple-yes&no questions&short answers in the context of typical friends
Subsidiary Aims

To give Ss practice in listening for specific information and semi-controlled speaking for accuracy
Procedure (35-48 minutes)
T personalises the task and make two statements about her thoughts on the issue. "I think women go shopping together and men watch football matches on the weekend" T encourages Ss to make sentences about the topic and gestures to show interest in learning about them more.
Hand out the statements from ex 3 in Listening to Ss and give an example with an answer I agree or disagree and elicit from a few students. Give clear instructions about when to put a tick (when they agree) or a cross (when they don't agree) Ss will work individually in this practice
Model a sentence to show students what they need to say eg.I think men talk about sports a lot but I dont think women talk about personal things. Pairwork, either put in pairs or in small groups to compare their answers from Ex4 in Listening Monitor the accuracy and pronunciation and use of TL
Write one of the statements used in Listening ex3 on the board Elicit a Yes/No que &short answer Drill this question and answer for the pronunciation. Encourage others to make Yes /No que Get some FB on their ideas from the previous stage and let Ss have chance to practise TL. Analyse the form on WB by leaving some blanks and elicit and let them discuss what's the right order in que.
Hand out ex1 in Grammar to Ss and give instructions to make questions Ss will listen to recording 1.38 Ss will check their answers and put a tick if the answer is true,put a cross if the answer is wrong Get Ss to peer check their answers and then ask WC get FB
Model the activity shortly with a student Put Ss in pairs to ask the same questions from ex 1 in Grammar and also listening 1.38 and answer. Monitor and pay attention the pronunciation.
Ss focus on "you" questions and work in pairs.Ss use the statements from Ex1 and turn them into questions. Drill some of the questions Give Ss time to ask and answer Ss walk around and speak to other people Monitor accuracy Take FB on what they learned about each other
