To provide clarification, review and practice of language used for making requests, talking about possibilities, abilities in the context of people
Procedure (33-44 minutes)
Can you can a can? How fast can you run? How much can you sleep? How long can you play video games? How many words can you say in a sentence? Class discussion
T handout the unscramble sentences. Ss unscramble the sentences and be exposed to the grammar structure directly.
T writes the unscrambled sentences on the board ang higlights the structure of "can" and "can't" / "cannot" T gets the answers from the class feedback
T gets ss recognize the meaning of "can" for possibility, "can" for ability, "can" for requests through the examples from the ppt.
T shows ss nine fill in the blanks questions and two complete the dialogues questions through ppt presentation. Ss work on can/can't.
T first introduces the question and the short form answers. (Can you play the piano? Yes, I can / No I can't.) Then, Teacher hands out a simple questionnaire with 10 questions about abilities. Ss interview each other and collect answers. T sets a time limit: 5 minutes
Ss write up a short report based on their questionnaire results. Leyla can cook, but she can't play football.
