Main Aims

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-Ss will be shown 2 pictures and they will be asked to predict. 1. Who could this woman be ? 2. Who could this man be ? 3. What do you think their ambitions are ?

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-16 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

-Ss will listen to Mariama and Remco conversation. -Ss will work in pair to answer questions of ex1. -Feedback: Ss will be asked a Yes or No question if Maria felt good about her achievements? If the answer is No they will be asked to justify. Ss will be asked a Yes or No question if Remco were feeling confident about his success ? If the answer is no they will be asked to justify. -In exercise 2 Ss. will be asked to listen again to Mariama and Remco conversation and they will work in pairs and guess if the sentences 1-4 are true or false ? Feedback: The teacher will nominate a pair to answer question 1 and the chosen pair will choose another pair to answer and so on until the task is completed.

Vocabulary (10-14 minutes) • To make students learn new vocabulary words, and know how to use them.

-Ss will do the ex3a in pairs and exchanges their answers. -Feedback: One students will be asked to read his answers, and the rest of the class will check if they have the same answers or not. -ELICITING the meaning of vocabulary is going to be as follows : -Competitive: (an example of a situation where the word would be used). -Comfortable: (picture) -Confident: (definition) -Arrogant: (the opposite ) -Win at all costs: (definition) -Bend the rules: (definition) -Play by the rules: (definition) - In ex3b Ss will be asked to work in pairs and answer the questions.

Practice- Speaking (7-10 minutes) • To make students speak more and be productive.

-Ss will be asked to work individually on the ex4a.T will ask each S about his answer. -In ex4b Ss will work in pairs and they will exchange their views together.
