Procedure (36-45 minutes)
The teacher enters the class and pretends that she has lost her purse. She looks for her purse when she finds it she sits and takes a deep breath.
The teacher starts telling a very short story about herself, something that happened to her before. Then she asks students if that event has ever happened to them? She asks them to talk about the questions with their partners. Then she asks a few students to give their answer to the class.
The teacher projects a page which includes target language sentences. she asks them to focus on the sentences and talk about the differences between highlighted parts with their partners. Then she elicits the answers.
The teacher goes to the board and elicits the structure of each tense and writes on the WB. She draws the timeline for each tense and asks some CCQs. ( e.g. she points to simple past and asks: 'Is this something that happened in the past and is finished?) She clarifies the differences between the two tenses by eliciting mostly.
The teacher tells students that she is going to give them a handout which is a gap-filling activity. They are supposed to do the exercise individually and then check the answers with their partners and finally, she asks some of the students to give the answers to the class. The teacher gives the students the answer key.
The teacher gives some sentences to the students and asks them to identify mistakes about two tenses. They check their sentences with each other.
The teacher gives the students a handout which includes three questions: Has anyone ever stolen anything from you or someone you know? When did it happen? How did it happen? Then she asks Ss to work in pairs and after three minutes switch Ss. As feedback, She wants them to tell whatever they learned about each other.
