Description

In this lesson, students learn about measurement through guided discovery based on a video about world party. The lesson starts with a discussion about the photo. This is followed by matching exercises where students find out the measurements and recognize them. Finally, there is a semi-controlled practive through class survey and a free practice via writing a report.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Pre-Listening (3-4 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

1. T asks ss to work in groups. Tell them to look at the title of the video and the photo, and answer the questions. 2. Class discussion about the questions.

While-Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information listening task

1. T asks ss to number the questions in order while they watch the video. Video takes 2.30 minutes. 2. T focuses on the information box and pre-teaches foot-feet-mile. T gives some time to read through the sentences. T plays the video again for ss to match the sentences with the numbers.

While-Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

3. T gives ss some time to read through sentences. T plays the whole of the video again for the students to watch and order sentences. 4. T plays the whole of the video again. Ss watch and check their answers.

Post-Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

1. T divides the class into group of five and tells them use the questions to prepare a party. 2. T asks one person from each group to tell the class about the party. 3. T asks ss in pairs to prepare questions using the prompts. For instance; Do you have a job? Are you under 30? T asks ss to walk around the class and interview as many students as they can in 5 mins. T tell ss to sit down with their partner and compare their answers.

After watch • Freer Practice OR homework

T goes through the examples with ss and them to write their report. If there is no time for this activity, T sets the task as homework.
