Procedure (35-45 minutes)
Continue with the hometown topic from the previous lesson. Show pictures of my hometown Ankara ask students: 'Do you know this city? Did you go there before?' 'I come from Ankara . So Ankara is my hometown. ' Write the sentence on the WB. Model it with one student from the class: 'Where do you come from?' Talk about your hometown with your partner for 1-2 minutes.
1)Preteach vocabulary 'some and 'a lot of'. Draw a number of flowers for 'some and a lot of' on the board. Ask Ss ' How many flowers are there? Too many? Or less? Opposite of some? Opposite of a lot of' some: more than one but not a large number a lot of: a large number some /sʌm/ a lot of /lɒt/ Drill the words 2) Stick the park photo on the WB: 'Look at the photo. How many people are there?How many trees are there?' Write on the WB: ' some people, a lot of trees' 3) Task 4a: 'We have a similar task here. There are three pictures and three sentences. Match the pictures with the sentences. Work alone.One minute' 'Together or alone? Match the pictures? Check with your partner and WCF.
1) Task 4b: ''We have another task. You will fill in the gaps. Work alone for one minute.'' 'Together or alone? Fill in the gaps? Write four sentences from the task while students are working. Whole class feedback by making four students to fill the gap for each sentence on the WB. 2) Clarification of form: Elicit from students where to use 'a' and 'an': singular nouns; 'a' with consonants, 'an' with vowels Elicit from students where to use 'some' and 'a lot of': plural nouns 3) Clarification of meaning Elicit from students 'some' (more than one but not a large number); ' a lot of' (a large number) Elicit from students 'some' and 'a lot of' are used for positive sentences. 4)Clarification of pronunciation. Highlight the pronunciation of 'there's' /ðeəz/; 'there are' /ðeərə/ Drill the words and the sentences on the WB Give HOs to Ss for later use
1)Show the photo of City of Bath in order for the Ss remember from the previous lesson. 2) Task 5a: 'We have a task about the City of Bath. There are eight sentences. You will fill in the gaps with 'is' or 'are'. Work alone for 1 minute.' 'Together or alone? Fill in the gaps?' 'Check your answers with your partner' and WCF. 3) Task 6a: Another task. There are ten sentences. Circle the correct word in each sentence. Work alone for 1 minute.' 'Together or alone? Circle the correct word?' Regroup the pairs: 'Check your answers with your partner' and WCF
With your partner discuss: ' Tell your partner about your hometown. ' Write the sentence on the WB and model it with a student: 'My hometown is Ankara. There are a lot of parks in Ankara. There's a zoo in Ankara.' 'Together or alone? Tell about your hometown?' Three minutes. Regroup pairs: 'Check your answers with your partner.' WCF
