Main Aims

  • By the end of this lesson, the ss will have practised the vocabulary related to personal qualities.

  • To listen for specific and detailed information.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T would remind Ss of Miss Trunchbull from the previous lesson by showing her picture and would elicit words used to describe Ms. Trunchbull.

Pre-Listening (8-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the listening exercise

a) T shows pictures of people and elicits the key vocabulary. For example boring, frightening etc. T describes some situation for eliciting the vocabulary that can't be elicited using Pictures. For example, clear, calm etc. b) T gives HOs and instructs the ss to choose the right word. Once the ss have finished the exercise, T asks them to compare their answers with their friends. T gives feedback on the screen.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (5-7 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging specific information listening task

a)T divides the ss into pairs. T gives instructions to the ss for the listening exercise. T instructs the students to listen for specific information. T plays the recording and does the first one with the students. After finishing the exercise, ss compare their answers. T gives feedback orally.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed listening task and expand on what they've learnt.

a) The ss work in the same pairs. T instructs them to listen in detail and make notes individually. T does the first one with the ss. b) T asks the pairs to compare their answers and share their own experiences also if they had the same kind of teachers. T uses ICQs. c) T gives feedback on the board.

Post-Listening (5-8 minutes) • To revise the grammatical category of the target language

a) T divides the ss into three groups and gives one whistle to each group. T instructs them to compete the table. The group that finishes first has to blow the whistle. T does the first one with the ss. T asks the groups to compare their results. T shows the answer key on the board. b) T instructs the ss to do Ex. 8b where they have to write if those suffixes indicate whether that word is a noun or an adjective. T asks the ss to compare their answers. T discusses the answers orally.
