Productive skills-Speaking,Listening-Revision of past simple

In this lesson ,Ss will practice speaking and listening past simple forms.

Materials

Abc Questionnaire for audio listening,HO with questions
Abc Photos

Main Aims

  • By the end of the lesson ,Ss will have practised controlled speaking in the context of 'the old days'.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To listen for specific information.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I aim to engage and set context by showing a photo on the IWB(Face 2 Face pg.41,5B) I will elicit answers to Q like; What do you think is going on?Where is it happening?Is it happening now ?This is done to bring learner's attention to past events.

Exposure (10-12 minutes) • To listen for specific information.

Introduce the class to Jason and Albert by showing their picture.Explain to them that they are going to listen to a conversation between Albert and Jason and answer the questions individually.Pass the HO and ask them to read it and answer the Q.Now play the audio. .Group into pairs and give 2 min to discuss.Again play the audio this time the T will demo solving a question.They will hear the audio and complete the Q.Now display the ansew key on the IWB.Students check the answers as a class and teacher do some concept checking on the questions.

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

T will draw a set of rows and columns on the board to do an activity on the word order. Students will be given instuctions on how to play the game.SS will be grouped into 4 groups and asked to form questions with the strips of paper with word given to them.Each group has to form 1Q.The group which forms the Q fastest will win.CCQ insstructions.T will demo the first Q by eliciting from the students.Students will do the activity.Check the answers as a whole class.Monitoring will be carried out at each stage.

Productive Task(s) (8-10 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Before the task teacher CC the use of was/were.After this ,as a control practice SS are given a set of Q and asked to form Q with 'you'..After this answers will be put up on the IWB.When they have completed the task ,as a free practice SS will sit with new patners ask these questions to their partners. Instructions are broken down and CC.Put the answer key on the IWB. Now T will practice finger highlighting,intonation , drilling with the Ss. Pronunciation,stress annd meaning of the word 'New year's Eve' will be discussed.

Feedback and Error Correction (5-7 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

SS will be given a few sentences to form Q and discuss with their partners.Monitoring ,error correction and feed back will be implemented.
