Description

In this lesson students will practice Wh- questions with I, you, we, they subject. they will then have some listening part that sts have to listen and do an exercise. there will be a reading for which sts will do scanning and skimming as well. and at the end there will personalization of the topic.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of wh- questions for present simple tense in the context of free time

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist, scan and detailed reading practice using a text about Free time activities
  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a Interview, conversation

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T will start with showing some pictures. what are these? do you go to the cinema on Sunday? This is not working time I show them a picture on which they have to elicit free time activities. one student will come to the board as a leader and write some activities they know

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

new lexis will be elicited and taught in the context by using some pictures as well. there will be matching activity that the students will do in pairs and answers will be checked together. reading text will be given to sts and they are supposed to listen and answer questions. there will be peer checking after wards and T will check their answers after that.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Elicit grammar where do you live Zerrin? I live in istanbul Do you like istanbul? yes, I like. what time do you sleep at night? after some elicitation the grammar will be clarified.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

For clarification T will set up milling activity. giving them a table to fill out each other's profile. both yes/no question and wh= questions are included in this interview, They are going to share their interview papers with the whole class.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

some scrambled question and answers will be given to sts to order in a group. then one representative will go and check the other group if they are right ot not. the teacher will monitor everything during whole activity.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

For students free activity there might be a personalized speaking activity using wh- questions
