Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of language used for asking for help in the class in the context of classroom interactions and language use

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in asking for help in the class in the context of classroom interactions

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will provide them with a short video clip on asking questions in a classroom and try to elicit some words like "question" or "help" and then when the pre-assumption of the context is already set, I will divide them into two classes named as Tom and Jerry for example, then in each small class there will some items of learning given to two people and two others would ask for them and their spelling. they will be familiar with how to ask some short questions.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

I will show them the picture of the conversation and ask them to guess what is happening in the class, then the guesses will be written on the board and finally we will listen to the audio to check their speculations. afterwards, I will ask them to open their books and practice the conversation in tom class and Jerry class. Eventually, they will be stand up and practice the conversation with closed books using their own memories.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

the students will be asked to underline the questions in the conversation and write them on a piece of paper in their teams, the questions are the target of the lesson.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Using the realia I will show them some of those questions, like "how do you spell this?" and then I will clarify that yes/no questions or wh-ones have different answers, finally the correct intonation will be practiced through back chain pronunciation and repetition.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

The students will do part D and fill in the blanks with the correct questions and check in their teams "class tom" and "class Jerry". After receiving a whole class feedback, I will ask the students to use the provided items and make new questions.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

in the final step which is the freer practice I will try to employ a fun activity in which the students will find more chance of using the language and enjoying it, in this part "class Tom" and "class Jerry" already have four members in each and two members of each group will be asked to visit the other group and ask for what they see on their desks, finally they will give the feedback to the teacher that "who had interesting things on their desks."
