This lesson is taken from English Ultimited course book. It revolves around the past simple and the past continuous. The lesson starts with a small discussion as warm up about some pictures describing a man who had a bad day because he has lost his money before getting in a taxi. Then I'll elicit the past simple and past continuous from the students. Then clarification of the meaning, form, and pronunciation. The first task is fill in the gaps. And then another task, correct the underlined verbs. the last stage is speaking to find an end for the story

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I'll set the context first, that a man was walking and it was sunny but suddenly the sun went in and it started raining. Students will watch three pictures. I'll ask them to describe each one. Write some of the students' sentences on the board to deal with them later.

Exposure (4-5 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Use the students' ideas from the board to write a sentence includes the past simple and past continuous. Ask the students which action continued for some time in the past and which action interrupted it

Clarification (5-6 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Draw a couple of time lines; one for the past simple and the other one for the past continuous. elicit the shape of the timelines of the sentences from Ss. Ask CCQs to check the meaning. Elicit the form of both tenses on the board. Model and drill pronunciation orally and individually.

Controlled Practice (5-6 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Give the students a fill in the gaps hand out and tell them that this text describes what happened to the man. Students work individually to answer the exercise and then they peer-check the answers together. Give them a sheet of paper includes the correct answer and make them check it and I may correct their mistakes if it's necessary.

Semi-Controlled Practice (4-6 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Give them a correct the underlined verbs handout. Ask them to check the answers together before checking with the whole class.

Free Practice (6-8 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Give the students two minutes to think what may happen to this man.Then students check in pairs and then with the whole class.
